A perferct stroller - but get multiple spokes, not the Single Spoke model

The 4 Rider by Mutsy comes with a bassinet, toddler seat, and silver chassis (the wheel part). The chassis is available with either foam wheels (the 4 Rider Light) in single or multiple spokes (I much prefer the ride of multiple spokes); small air filled tires (bit heavier); or with 4 huge air filled tires (4 Rider Urban). The bassinet and toddler seat on all models is the same.We have had this stroller for 5 months now and brought my baby home from the hospital in the bassinet. At first I wasn't sure if I needed a "full feature" stroller or just a smaller umbrella type but having the bassinet was great! It easily detaches from the stroller and can be carried with a strap throughout the house or in a taxi or bus. The wheel part collapses very easily and pretty compactly (fit with no problem in our trunk with plenty of room to spare). My baby slept in the bassinet for hours and it was wonderful to be able to see her face which was a feature that I wanted and is not available with the umbrella strollers.When she was 4 months, we used the Graco carseat for a little while which was very useful but not my child's favorite way to travel. The Mutsy can take either a Graco or Maxi Cosi with an adaptor (sold separately).We have now moved onto the toddler seat. In 2008, Mutsy began selling the strollers with only the toddler seat for around $500 - so you can save $200 by not buying the 3-piece system with bassinet if your child is older. The toddler seat can recline absolutely flat and can face either direction so can be used from birth (however the European manual states the baby should be 6 months old...strange). It is not a bucket like the Bugaboo - when reclined completely, the child is flat, not in a "V" form as with the Bugaboo or Quinny. It has a huge good with viewing window, detachable bumper bar, 5 piece harness and adjustable foot rest. The fabric is fantastic - plush but easily cleaned. I have the stroller in red and the lining of the hood is a very silky light grey cotton.In addition to the stroller, I did buy the carseat adaptor, footmuff (there are many other brands out there but as a first time mum, I wanted everything matchy matchy), dinner tray and rain shield (not sure if I like the rain shield - it's a very stiff plastic - a pain to fold up).Overall, I am thrilled with the stroller. I spent about 39.5 weeks of my pregnancy researching all the brands and debating on going with a bassinet or Snap n Go (NOT safe for a newborn in my opinion) and got everything I wanted with this one. Most people who shop for a full-featured European stroller go for the Bugaboo however I feel that this stroller has it beat in 3 ways: Collapses flat with the seat attached which makes it great for subways or taxis, the bassinet is much higher than on the Bugaboo (about 12-18" higher), and the toddler seat and bassinet are two separate items which means you can either buy the stroller with our without the bassinet or sell it later when your child outgrows it. Another small point is that the toddler seat reclines flat and not in a bucket or fixed "V" form.

Still a good stroller, but better for infants than toddlers.

Original Review written when baby was 2 weeks old.We have the Mutsy 4rider Single Spoke with Joey seat, Traveller lie-flat car seat, rocker frame, and shopping bag attachment. We absolutely adore this system.We bought the 4rider Single Spoke from Kiwi Gear - Rodney gives you amazing service with a charming Kiwi accent. He also has great deals on the Ergo carrier.WEIGHT: It IS a bit heavy to put into the trunk of our Prius, but the suspension, maneuverability, and practical accessories are definitely worth the trade-off! The 4rider light has foam tires so it is a bit lighter, but we wanted air tires and improved suspension. The Mutsy comes with a bike-style air pump that clips into the built-in basket.CLOTH PADDED child safety bar: One bonus is that the "bar" that holds your child in the seat is completely upholstered in the same nylon fabric as the rest of the seat, so no chance of baby taking a "chomp" out of the bar (as an UppaBaby Vista reviewer's daughter did).FOLDING: The Mutsy has a one-hand fold (even with seat attached).HANDLE HEIGHT: The handle adjusts with one-touch to accomodate all heights (very important for us since I am 5'1" and my husband is 6'6").ROCKER FRAME: The rocker frame lets you put the seat into the frame so your child can rock/bounce on his own (or with your rocking). It comes with a "lock" so you can use the frame as a non-rocking bouncer.EXTRA STORAGE: The shopping bag attachment is ROOMY! It is an aluminum frame with a fabric/mesh bag attached that will hold the contents of an entire paper shopping bag with space left over for your purse or a small diaper bag.CAR SEAT: The Traveller lie-flat car seat is only approved for use in the EU, so we had to go the "friend of a friend" route to buy it, but many experts say that it's not good for spinal development to keep infants "curled" in the car seat too long, so this 3 position lie-flat seat was the right choice for us. Some parents may not be comfortable with using an European approved car seat, but we looked at the safety standards and felt they were at least as stringent as the US standards.VERSUS: Chameleon, UppaBaby, Stokke (tested in the stores)Chameleon - did not steer one-handed as well as the Mutsy. The handle did not extend as high. It seems like 80% of our neighbors in San Francisco have the Chameleon.UppaBaby - more unique, and slightly lighter than the Mutsy. The handle did not extend as high, also the handle was much less substantial - when fully extended, it rocked and clattered in the frame (didn't do this when the handle was in the lowest position).Stokke - we almost went with the Stokke. The high seat was great, and the handle was high enough for my husband and low enough for me. However, all three times we tested the Stokke, I was unable to fold the stroller unassisted. One salesman even told me to put "one foot here, one foot there, and now push there with your other foot". The last time I checked, I only had TWO feet, not three, so I decided to take a pass on the Stokke. For more coordinated parents (or those with three feet, I suppose), the Stokke could be a great city-stroller for sidewalk use.All this to say we LOVE our Mutsy!!UPDATEBaby is now 11 months old. We outgrew out Mutsy at 6 months. The infant seat (Traveller) was good up to 20 pounds. Our chunky and long baby was too long for the Traveller at 6 months, so we moved him up to the Toddler seat. It's a beautifully made piece of equipment. Press down on the tabs to remove the infant seat, put the toddler seat in its place, press down on the seat, and presto! Easy peasy.Unfortunately, our son HATED the Toddler seat. It is very deep and he had a tough time seeing around the canopy. The canopy is HUGE (does a great job shielding baby), but baby wanted to see. After two weeks of his grunts and leaning forward, we decided to retire the Mutsy and go back to the stroller store.This time, we looked at the Orbit and the Stokke. The Orbit is very high tech with the orbiting base, but the handles did no extend, which made it a no-go for my 6'6" husband. Also, our neighbors who LOVE their Orbit infant seat say that the Orbit toddler seats (there are two - one for the car and one for the stroller) say that the toddler seats are not very cushy/comfortable.So we decided on a Stokke, and LOVE it. Baby is now old enough to use the Stokke as a restaurant high chair. The canopy is much smaller which allows baby to see more. He can also sit much more vertically in the Stokke. We purchased the jungle pattern accessory kit (umbrella, canopy, and foot muff). The umbrella makes up for the smaller canopy but gives baby the opportunity to look around more. The foot muff keeps him warm in the San Francisco summers and helps catch food when he self feeds in a restaurant so we don't make a huge mess on their floor. When we get home, I just shake it out and/or throw in the washing machine depending on what we had for dinner.We kept the Mutsy frame and infant seat for baby #2. It was a great infant stroller but not so great for an older baby.

We bought this stroller and bassinet when our son was 4 months old. My husband and I love the way this stroller looks and our son seems comfortable and is always happy when riding in it. We used the bassinet for a month or two until our son was too big but will use it immediately with our next child. The seat is easy to recline and change directions. Unlike previous poster, I have no problem knowing when seat (or bassinet) is securely locked in the stroller base; it clicks and red shows when not properly connected.
