Great stroller for travel or public transportation

If you're looking for a good lightweight compact stroller the Volo is worth considering.This is my workhorse, I've had it for five years with three kids and it's always in the car for use along with an Ergo Baby Carrier Black with Camel Lining or an Eddie Bauer Harness Buddy, Monkey for quick errands. It's an easy way to avoid using a double stroller.The canopy is larger than many others but you would still need a Protect-a-Bub Single Compact Sunshade, Black. The Volo doesn't recline, the basket is on the small side and you'll need a Maclaren organizer to stash the rain cover. However, it's fantastic for subways and public transportation as it folds super compactly, weighs only 9 lbs, has a shoulder strap, has a great rain cover, and it goes to 55 lbs (my 5 year old loves it for our trips to NYC). It's not great for uneven surfaces but that's when I just toss it over my shoulder.On the downside, Maclaren USA recently declared bankruptcy so customer service is a bit of a toss up. I've yet to have a problem with our Volos though.Other options to consider:* Inglesina 2012 Trip Stroller, Marina - this is the best umbrella stroller I've owned as it has 6" wheels, suspension, a large canopy, deep recline, wheel suspension, waterproof fabric and rain cover, and it's built like a tank -- excellent quality. It folds fairly compactly and has a side carry handle. It weighs 16 lbs but has a 55 lb maximum weight capacity. The 2011 model weighs 14.5 lbs and also has an approved weight of 55 lbs, even though the manual says 40 lbs. Earlier models are lighter (13 lbs?) but have a max allowed weight of 40 lbs. The Trip is far superior to the similar looking Maclaren Quest Stroller, Black/Dove, which has a more delicate material weather resistant fabric and smaller wheels that won't work well on uneven surfaces.* Aprica Presto Stroller, Loft Brown: 14 lbs and a whopping maximum child weight of 70 lbs. Great for sightseeing when your really older kids are tired at the end of the day. It has a good basket and canopy, and it is often at a similar price as the Volo.* Peg-Perego Si Light Weight Stroller, Java. Accepts a car seat, one hand fold, large basket. It's getting a bit into the full size stroller territory. Weight limit is 45 lbs, less that all the others. Expensive and not great for public transportation but still worth a look.Despite its limitations, the Volo still can't be beat is you need a high-quality super lightweight and compact basic stroller. I just bought our second one for use with our toddler twins as many airlines have banned strollers over 20 lbs, eliminating almost all double strollers - two of these are a good substitute. As expected, if you need additional features such as a larger canopy, recline and suspension, expect them to be heavier and more expensive.

We just bought this Volo from BuyBuyBaby to use it for quick errands. We also have the Maclaren Techno XT so I made few comparisons:Weight: 10.8lbs with the canopy, the basket and the rain cover (6.8lbs lighter than the Techno XT with the canopy and rain cover)Seat width: 13 inches (same as Techno XT)Seat height: 18 inchesLength between the seat and the top of the hood: 24 inches vs 26 inches for Techno XTWheel diameter: 4.5in vs 6.25in for Techno XTTop of the handle bar: 40.5in from the floor vs 42.5-43.5in for Techno XTPROS:- VERY light weight- VERY compact- Comes with a carry strap (Techno XT doesn't)- Comes with a rain coverCONS:- Doesn't recline- The canopy cannot be extended for additional coverage like the Techno XT- The harness is longer than the techno XT, so you will probably have to pull the harness and put the plastic ends on another whole to shorten the straps.- No peek a boo window (vs Techno XT)- Small wheels - not meant for bumpy roads. (I almost tripped over with my son in the stroller when I went over a bump the first time I took him out in this stroller! I should probably add that I am a fast walker.) This is still a great stroller for the city where the surfaces are relatively smooth.

Love!

I received my stroller two days after I ordered! I was super excited and it is excatly what we were looking for! Light weight, great quality stroller that will last a long time. The handles are perfect for taller people, I am 5'9" and my husband is 6'3". It is a little more than we wanted to spend on a stroller like this as we already have a baby jogger city mini however we are going overseas and wanted something even lighter. The basket and the raincover are a plus! Great buy!
